What would be my options then? I had my heart set on this idea and now I feel disillusioned. I really can't stay in this area much longer cos it'll have a bad impact on my son as he grows up but equally, I need to feel safe both through my life and my old age, but also for him. Not bother with getting my own home? I feel like, if I start working, that my rent will increase to crazy figures and it doesn't do anything long-term. My grandma has her own home but neither my mum or her siblings have their own homes and they're pushing 50. I don't want to worry about leaving my son without anything to show for my working life. Treats, presents, they'll all come and go and eventually disappear but I need to leave him something that'll continue to help him, with his children and his future. I know this is thinking ahead but really that's all I want.
Up and onwards to the future!

I'm not saying don't buy your own house - I'm just saying this is way to early to be able to do it. And you have no idea what the options will be in a few years time. But saving now will give you more choices later.

You need to save up and get yourself a good job and get your son established at school. That's a lot to be doing for the next few years! It isn't going to matter if you don't start buying a house until the time you are 30, that's plenty of time to clear the mortgage before you retire.

It's great that you are looking ahead, but the best thing you can invest in at the moment is yourself. Get yourself a good career, even if means getting some qualifications.
