tesco's mousemats are fabric topped. this can help your mouse track better if you use an optical mouse... but be warned, because if you use the computer as much as i do, you'll find the fabric topped mousemat can go quite horrible fairly soon as it gets worn down, and additionally its rather hard to clean.

https://www.mymousemat.com provides pvc topped mousemats. these do still track nicely on optical mice however. they last a lot longer and are far easier to keep clean.

if you want your mousemat to last a lot of use, go for https://www.mymousemat.com, but if the mousemat is a novelty gift for someone or won't get much use, go for the cheaper tesco's mousemat.
