How does monthly pay work?

I'm starting a new job tomorrow, now I've always been on weekly pay, so I don't know how to expect to receive my pay monthly.
Now I've been told by my manager we don't work any weeks 'in hand', and if I start tomorrow I'll be paid for the time I've worked at the end of this month, like all other employees.
BUT I don't understand how this would work, for example, we're paid on June 28th (last Friday of the month). Now what if I missed June 27th? Is there a certain 'cut off' date in the month we're paid from (for example you're paid at the end of the month for 21st - 21st or something like that)? Or would any time taken off after a certain date be deducted from the next month?
I'm just trying to project how much I'll be paid at the end of the month! (my birthday is on June 29th, so I need to project how much spare cash I'll have!)..
Any help will be appreciated, and I know I probably haven't made this the clearest, so I'll add additional info if anyone asks for it!
Cheers,
Keys.

Depends how your company works. Mine operates on payday is 24th, and that covers the month 1-31st. Cut off for overtime/expenses/deductions is the 16th, otherwise they are made to the following month's pay.0

Ok that's promising! Its good to know some companies do do that! Just with it being my 21st at the end of June, cutting from Weekly to Monthly couldn't have come at a worse time (potentially.) The last weekend of the month is set to be an expensive one, so the more I can get paid the better!
Thank you for your input!0 -
You need to make sure you get all your details set to payroll as soon as possible so they can get you on the system (you might find the cut-off date is as early as say the 15th so it pays to be organised).
I think normally they'd pay you for the whole month but have a cutoff - say the 21st or something (depends on your payroll) and pay you assuming you'd be there for the whole month and any sickness/holidays/absences etc would come off next months (like you said) or they could do it say 21st to 21st and then pay you at the end of the month.
Do make sure you give them your P45 as well or fill in a P46 to make sure you're on the right tax code.
Best of Luck

Are you being paid for variable hours or an annual wage? If an annual wage you can expect 1/12 of it each month (so will be better paid per hour in February). This month, as you are starting on the 6th you will probably get 25/30 x 1/12 x annual wage (- tax, NI, pension). If you take authorised holiday or are ill and covered by sick pay this will not change. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I used to get paid on the 25th and the cut off was 5 working days before then but say you went sick one day on the 25th the month after they would stop you 1 days pay
The pay on the 25th was 1/12th salary and was paid to cover the month day 1 to the last day
If you started today of course you wont get a full months pay but they will pay you less the few days in June you have not worked. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
38.5 hours per week, but with it being monthly pay I'm ASSUMING I'd be on 1/12, I honestly don't know, I'll try and get more insight tomorrow, just talking to the 'money man' seems to be difficult!
Thanks for all the replies! I'm feeling hopeful so far!

(new job IS in estate agency, so commission can be earned on top of wage, another confusion, but that's well over my head!)0 -
Well that will make it more complicated. You may get commission at a certain point in the sale and it may be paid at certain times/over certain periods which may or may not be related to your pay period.

My boss seemed as confused as me! But confirmed that I will be paid on the last working day of the month, anything I miss before the last week will be docked from this months wages, anything missed from in the last week of June will be taken from the next month.
As for commission, he said something, seemed pretty unconvinced of it himself, think he's just as lost on it as me, but as long as I get a decent pay packet my Birthday may still be a success
Cheers for the help
