Can I sign on for JSA?

I'm a student who has just completed his year at university and will be starting my second year in September. I was told by a friend that technically because I'm not studying I can sign on for job seekers allowance until September as technically I have started my holidays from university and I am looking for part time/full time work. Can I claim job seekers allowance?

No, unless you are a lone parent. As you are returning to uni in September you are 'technically' a continuing student.

That's what I thought when I was told I could apparently claim jsa whilst I was not studying.
