Paying back student loan question ?

my wife is at university and is entitled to a student loan.
We are thinking of taking it with the view to maybe using the money or maybe not.

question is, if we dont use the money can we just give all of it it straight back ????

short answer is probably not. you have to apply for student finance every year.

so if for the first year you haven't used it its not a case you can just give it back.

but if you don;t need it anymore for the second or 3rd then just don;t apply for it anymore.

you can ring up student finance just in case but they would question why would you apply in the first place if you might not use it.

The last episode of Martins money show dealt with student loans.. If you can download that anywhere then it will almost certainly help you out :-)

But you are still charged interest, so you will owe more than you take.
