Isn't that like saying "i once ate a chicken that gave me food poisoning, based on this i wont eat anything else"

Yes, I can see your point. Sorry, I should have been clearer - why go to a financial advice company for debt management, and pay them, when a CAB or independent advice agency will do it for free?

Fine, Tiggs. Don't know why you couldn't have said that sooner - it would have a been a lot more helpful. Independent or not (doesn't matter to my company), my point was that they're a GENUINE COMPANY and not a rip-off merchant.

As I have previously stated I have a unit trust Mini ISA investment with SJP whaich has been running for about 18 months and not doing too badly, (about +25%).But I think I could do better. What is the position on moving the funds to another company, is it the same situation as with MIni Cash ISA's in that you lose the tax free status if you withdraw it and invest it elsewhere. Must have a word with and IFA as to where I should put the money.

SJP have a fairly poor reputation in the industry. They seem to have advisers that promote themselves as IFAs when they are not.

They do tend to have some very slick marketing material but that doesn't make for good advice.
I know of a few people who work at sjp they are based in my town and they don't rate it that badly.

They may not be as an employer. However, that doesn't make their products competitive or their recommendations any good. Tied advisers are often brainwashed into thinking they are best. All the marketing material given to tied agents is positive. Whereas IFAs get to see the good and the bad. Of course, a bad IFA is no different to a bad tied agent but a good IFA can wipe the floor with a good tied agent.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Has anyone worked or used St James Place? They are a company offering Financial Advice...

The reason I ask is that I have been approached by them to join their "St James Place Academy" to train and become an advisor with them

Does anyone have nay experience of how they operate? should i be jumping at the chance to join them or give them a wide berth?

    Thanks
    Mikeyboy

Did you end up joining Mikey? I'm in the same situation now. The offer to join the academy seems a bit too good to be true, which sets of alarm bells. I've spoken to them and have been assured the academy is funded by the company and they don't want any money. I don't know of any other institution that's offering a free education. Please let me know of your experiences with SJP. Sstevieg
