Find it, Keep It

When studying AS Law I remember the lecturer talking about what to do if you find things, money, personal items etc etc and how it is still in fact theft to take them and not hand them in, even if it is a tenner.
However, he did also say, that in order to claim an amount of lost money, that is not attached to a wallet or some form of ID to help prove it belonged to the person claiming it in the first place. Technically, you would have to quote the serial number on the note, how many people take note of each number on their notes.....?
(no idea if he was bull s'ing it, but it made me laugh and I remembered it, never lost money since

If you found £50 somewhere, it wasnt yours, but no one else claimed it and you dont know whos it was, under the UK law, are you entitled to keep it. Or does law state you gotta give it to cops or summat
I found a wallet a couple of years ago which belonged to a student and had his union card, a couple of debit cards and £32 cash. I did the honourable thing and handed it in to the police.
If it hadn't belonged to a student or there was a fair amount of cash then, I might have been tempted to keep it, even although it's totally wrong.
You should always try and think about it, as if it was your own lost wallet and you'd hope some kind Samaritan would hand it in.Lao Tzu - "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"
