To Broker or not to broker?

I've had three mortgage advisers referred to me and I'm fed up and on the verge of either going for a Googled one or just going straight to my bank.
Two have taken my details and haven't gotten back to me and 1 took my details and came back with recommending a Santander mortgage because "Santander gives cash back and with the cash back I'll pay him." It felt like this was the main reason he was recommending this mortgage. Am I missing something?

it seems if there's nothing ugly in your credit file, you arent self employed and you arent pushing your affordability, a broker isnt that necessary. Though you will get someone you can have a whinge at who can drive through your process.0

It really does depend on your situation and the details. I cannot believe that cashback should be a justification for a recommendation although Santander do top some of the best buy tables at the moment when whole of market.
No excuse for not returning calls though, amateur and unprofessional.
If there is nothing unusual or difficult in your case, would suggest you could go to a bank directly. Be mindful though, just because your bank is your bank, they will do you no favours product wise and visiting a different bank/broker could save you a considerable amount of money...

If you go direct to a lender, initially say yes to all the rubbish they will want to flog you on top of it ( as this will mean it get's processed quicker) then when you get your offer, cancel the rest of it and shop around for more competitively priced insurances ( if you actually need them)I am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. It's a waste of everyone's time to say you want insurances and subsequently cancel them.
If you go direct to a lender and you don't want their insurances just say so. The sale of insurance doesn't affect the speed of the underwriting process.Early retired - 18th December 2014
