Hi,
My Nephew is really into Baking at the moment--his almost 13 and a good little cook, he mainly likes doing pastries which is good as his pastry is better than mine,
I,m doing him a Chefs hamper for Christmas (bowl, utensils, chef apron etc) but i,d really like a good cookery book to put in but can,t find one i,m sure he,ll use,
As i say he likes doing anything with pastry and he can also do soups, i,m avoiding the cake books etc as i have loads of them but don,t mind if theres cakes in what i buy--i just can,t find any with a lot of pastry stuff in but knowing me i,m just missing them--so was wondering if anyone could recommend any?

I have The Hairy Bikers' Perfect Pies - has all the types of pastry in there and as the title suggests, it's all based on pies! It's not just your normal closed pie though, it's got bottom based pies, pastry top pies, tarts and tartlets, quiches, handheld pies, sweet, savoury etc. Plus it's got some side dishes to go along side the pies.0

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pastry-Savoury-Sweet-Michel-Roux/dp/1844008274/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1370319041&sr=8-5&keywords=michel+roux I use this one quite a lot, it's compact but has loads of recipe and a little help section to guide you if your pastry doesn't turn out as expected. The recipes are really easy to follow as well'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good'0

If he is really keen and has some talent, get him the first book professionals use.. even famous chefs have this in their kitchens and many "cooking books" just do variations of what is in here.
