new cooker ideas please

I need a new gas cooker - oven, grill and burners in one with a "lid" that fold down over the burners. Not a range as the new one will have to fit the old space. Also I can't fit a separate oven and hob into my kitchen.
I've had the current one since 1987 and it's been excellent but the thermo has given up the ghost and I can't get it hot enough so it's got to go.
I've no idea of which brands are good - value for money and strong/reliable and would really appreciate any ideas/suggestions.
I've said gas but I'm open to electric if you feel they are better to cook with.
one last thing - what is a double oven, and would it also have a grill ?
Thanks :T
