Recommendations for really posh olive oil

My dad's going through a phase of putting olive oil on everything - he thinks he's going to live forever if he has lots of it! For father's Day I'd like to get him a really good bottle of the stuff - it all tastes the same to me so can anyone recommend one to buy?

You can tell him that Rape Seed oil has even better 'live forever' properties (which it does), it's locally produced in the UK by UK farmers (if that's make any difference to you) and if you get a 'cold pressed' type you can be assured no solvents were used to clean it.
Many types in Tesco and others or you can order directly from farmers just type the above to any search engine to get more details.

Now to your original query, I prefer the olive oil coming from the middle east made from olives that were not irrigated so the flavor is really concentrated. The type of olives is the 'Syrian' variety and in the UK you can order it from any of the outlets in this list http://www.zaytoun.org/distribution/retail/

Go for something that looks green rather than yellow, and comes in a pretty bottle, as a treat. That will be better for salads, breads and any food where the taste is important. It is however a waste to cook with it (fry etc).

Virgin olive oil is so much a matter of taste. Some are peppery, some are 'green' some are sweet, nutty, some bitter etc etc. I tasted a Tesco extra special (or whatever it is called) recently and it was absolutely dreadful - bitter, nasty stuff. It would ruin most salads.

One I particularly like is Belazu Arbequina.
