Importing from America

Hey, hope this is the right place to post this.

Anyway, an American student friend of mine has recently ordered $1400 (£700 aprox) of sports gear from an American website, using all his american details but shipping to his current UK residence at uni halls.

Will he have to pay import tax (vat?) when the parcels come to the country. Or because he is an American student studying here is there any chance he will be able to avoid this charge?

Many thanks,

Tom

No, he will have to pay import duties (if any) and VAT.

His nationality will have no bearing on import charges
