There are six: Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale curtisi, P. ovale wallikeri, P. malariae and P. knowlesi. Falciparum and Vivax are responsible for the most fatalities.

I get 5 from the malaria wiki page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaria ) but their answer is 6 on the site
