Think I am beat. Whats likely to happen?

Am I mad to quit? I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired as they say, being stuck in a nightmare with no end in sight. As some will know I've given everything to trying to get another job with little to no success but I don't think I can continue in this job I am totally stressed with it all to be honest, I'm sure those unemployed would be grateful for my job and I was also for about a week until I saw how things operate and its been hell ever since.

I'm pretty sure my doctor would back up my claims of stress issues as I've seen them 7/8 times in the past year so would this help in any claim for benefits etc? Or am I making a huge mistake with all this? I think i've given it a fair crack of the whip.

I appreciate you are finding it tough, but I do think leaving will make things even worse for you. You will not be an attractive candidate if you left your current role for no good reason, and to most employers stress is not a good reason, it is a fact of working hard. Right or wrong, employers do not like taking on people with mental health issues.

With regard to benefits, your claim may not be sanctioned if you can provide medical evidence of your stress.

Have you looked at other ways of managing the stress? Exercise, or counselling?

I have a battle going on in my head, one side is saying exactly what you're saying, the other is saying get out, its not worth it.

As for managing these things its been entirely self help books, as I mentioned previously my doctor says the solution is to speak to HR and I reported how that worked out.

Ask your GP about counselling - they are there to help with exactly what you describe, battles in your head. Some areas now offer services outside normal hours, so you would not need to tell anyone at work if you did not wish to.

Have you looked at widening your job search area, and had your cv checked over?

Is this connected to the fact that your wife isn't working now?

No, And in fact if I do leave we will be up the creek without a paddle as benefits for 2 people are next to nothing, different if 1 works due to working tax

Sounds like a pretty good reason not to choose to leave then.

Have you thought of getting therapy to teach you to deal with stress?
