I work in the bakery at Mr S and I have to have all fresh products on display by 9 am. I will start my shift at 5 am so generally between 8-9 am the french bread will come out fresh, as they take the quickest to cook.

You wont get warm french sticks from a shop as by the time you get them home they will be cold (unless you plan to stand in the shop and eat it)

Also they are usually left to cool before putting in a plastic bag, or they sweat too much.

You might time it right at a small local farm shop or spar that cooks bread on premises, but Gain, cold by the time you get home

Why not buy part-bake and cook yourself at home, or just reheat shop bought at home

As suggested by flea, why not buy part-bake and heat them up yourself at home? Guaranteed freshness if bought part-baked as well.

    Tesco's Homebake Baguettes x 4 are £1.90 (47.5p/Bread) and Tesco's 2 x Everyday Value Part Baked Baguettes are 45p (22.5p/Bread).

ASDA's 2 x Easy Bakery Part Baked White Baguettes are currently 2 for £1.

    Sainsbury's 2 x Basics Part Baked Baguettes are 45p (22.5p/Bread) and 2 x Sainsbury's Bake at Home Brown Baguettes £1 and 2 x Sainsbury's Ready to Bake White Baguettes £1.20.

And Waitrose 2 x Delifrance Ready to Bake Baguettes are £1.02 (51p/Bread).

Why not ring your local supermarkets & check, as they seem to have several different times throughout the day that they bring them out.

The Waitrose ones I've had, even if cold, have never been hard.

I agree with others though, if you want them still warm, unless you live next door to the supermarket, you're better to buy the part-cooked ones & finish them at home. Or, what I would do, wipe the cooked bread with a damp cloth & re-heat - I find that it doesn't get too hard that way.

I think the 'rustique' sticks are less likely to break your teeth if re-heated ;)

I hate to state the obvious but why not try a real baker? There are still a few left and, unlike supermarkets, they don't heat-up pre-made factory bread.

If you can find one that has managed to stay in business, that would undoubtedly be your best bet.

But they still dont keep the bread warm, once cooked. Its taken out the oven and put on the shelf, same as every other type of bakery. A small local bakery, is also more likely to only bake once a day and usually overnight/early morning, so less chance of getting hot bread even if you are there when the shop opens at 7am

The OP wants to buy some magic bread, that stays warm and fresh, indefinitely. The only option is to make their own dough, or use part-baked

I second that, Lidl bakeries on the continent are amazing. The new UK stores are getting them, but they range and quantity is less. However they are topped up regularly.
