Vegas wedding - how do I get the ORIGINAL marriage certificate?

Hello

Got married in Vegas 12 May, it was fantastic. Ordered what I thought was the original and a certified copy of the certificate the other day - they've arrived and it's 2 certified copies.

I can't see anything about getting the original certificate on the Clark County courthouse website, have emailed them but no reply yet.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me how I get hold of the original certificate as I can't update my driving licence, passport etc without it!

Thanks :)

I've phoned the registry office here and they've confirmed the original stays in Vegas so the certified and stamped / sealed copies I have are what I need. No further action required!

if you think about the process logically..its actually no different to what happens in the UK.....The original document is the stored official copy and what you are given by the registrar is the certified copy

Glad you have had it clarified ....

I think what Turtle means is she has never had to apply for birth certificates etc.

When we went to give notice OH didn't have a clue how to go about getting his. In the end we took to the internet too and eventually got one ordered.

Its not usually something people do.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Thank you 74jax, you're right I've never had to order any kind of certificate so had no idea what the normal process is. Frankly I'm surprised it seems to be common knowledge to know this stuff, though it's been a while since anyone tried to insist I know something that I don't.
  • Hiya, I'm getting married in Vegas this August. Did you have to go to a solicitors or anywhere to "pre-register" (?) your intended marriage? Or am I correct that I just need to fill in the County Clark form online and turn up to the county office in Vegas? Sorry if this is confusing! Thanks in advance!

Hi congrats on your upcoming wedding :)

You are correct that you just need to fill in the form then turn up at the County Clark office, there's no other registering involved. Actually, out of 4 couples there when we went we were the only ones that had already done it online, the others just did it there.

It's quicker if you've done it beforehand though, you just check all your details, sign a few forms, pay your $60 then they give you your licence and that's it. All you have to do is remember to take the licence with you to the ceremony!

Where are you staying and where are you getting married?
  • Thanks for the reply! We will be staying at MGM Grand for 11 nights, and getting married in Caesar's gardens in accordance with KK photography which includes a 3 hour strip photo session afterwards.
