Bbc license fee

I've not got a problem paying my TV licence. Ok it's a nuisance but I know how the money is spent and I love the BBC.0

Anyone thinking the BBC is rubbish should be made to sit in a hotel room in the USA for a week and try to find the TV programmes in between the adverts.
Ever listened to the radio out in the heartland? They got stations that play both kinds of music - Country and western - and then they don't got nothing else but preachers!“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
Unless you're a native of that area, it would be very hard to judge the affinity of the local audience to their radio stations.
Judging it from a British perspective would be unwise.0 -

What? Driving through Georgia last year, that's all they got. So they either got an affinity or they don't listen to the radio“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
It is a bit stupid in the age of handheld instant internet streaming videos and the such that people should have to pay for a licence for a TV. TVs will be redundant in a few years..
why? Because everyone prefers to watch on an iPad? You gotta be kidding.....
And, judging by the bigger and bigger sets in the retailers, nobody's told the manufacturers this yet...0 -
I'd hate to be without the BBC in all it's forms - telly dramas, news, current affairs, documentaries, special occasions (e.g. royal wedding), radio (5 Live for daily listening and world service for when Im overseas) and their website/podcasts. I'm not a fan of soaps and sit-coms but there's usually something watchable across their main 5 tv channels.
It might sound odd but I even enjoy live sport on Radio 5 - tennis, golf, F1, cricket etc. Excellent commentary.
At under £3 per week it's an absolute bargain.

Radio 5 Live alone is worth the license fee.
I don't watch a lot of tv, but on the occasion when I'm watching something on BBC it's nice to not have it interrupted by adverts for injury lawyers 4 u.
In the near future, Live tv will only be showing sport. The rest is already available via catch up services, such as BBC iPlayer. This way, you can watch your soaps etc. other providers deliver films etc. you do not need to pay the TV Tax for these services.
As for live sport, some sport, rugby championship playoffs, England in South America on Sunday were shown only on the Internet live, again no TV Tax required.
The TV Tax is dead.0 -
'The output is laced with left-liberal smugness'
This is why they can't win - for every person saying the above, there will be another person saying they are forcing right wing propaganda down our throats and are a mouthpiece for the government!
Blackbeard of Perranporth in post #28 completely ignores the fact that making and broadcasting (or hosting and streaming it in your world) costs money and thinks he should get everything for free.0 -
I agree with both of those points.
I am conscious that by streaming content I am altering the financial basis that provides the service I am watching. So... although it was initially very strange to have adverts forced on to the screen by C4 & C5 streaming services, I've rapidly got used to it, and see that as my contribution to their running costs. In reality, the amount of ads overall is smaller, some programmes have no ads and there is a countdown clock so you know exactly how long you'll have to wait before it restarts.
There is no similar "contribution lite" for the BBC - I am open-minded about whether there should be or not.0 -

How would you know what they want to listen to?0
