Take the employer to an employment tribunal, this is fine as long as you start proceedings before he's declared insolvent.
The tribunal will be held, he'll probably not turn up, and when you win you can claim back awards (usually unpaid wages/holiday pay) from the government (think from the national insurance fund or something similar).

Check your home insurance to see if you have legal expenses cover. This will usually cover employment disputes such as unpaid wages. Claims would normally need to have at leat 50% chance of success but you may have cover up to £50k or more.0

Yes... But he can only take the employer to court if the employers company is not insolvent. So take him to tribunal now, and then claim owed monies awarded by the tribunal once the company is declared insolvent (assuming he owes money to the bank etc, who will then start the insolvency process).0
