Off Peak Return Restrictions

I'm getting conflicting advice so need some help from experts here. I will be travelling from Reading to a zone 2 station in north London on Sunday and returning Monday afternoon around 17.00. Will an off peak ticket work for this? I know there are limitations on fast trains from Paddington so will go an a stopping train but am I also going to be restricted on the tube?

A Reading - London off-peak return is £25.30
An Oyster single on the tube would be £2.10 on Sunday, £2.10 or £2.80 on Monday.
A Reading - Zone U12* London off-peak ticket is £31.30, which is more expensive than the London ticket + Oyster.
There would be no restrictions on the tube with that ticket, but as stated, Oyster is cheaper.
You also might like to consider a ticket such as Reading - Hertford off-peak return. This has some validity on the tube, and has no restrictions from Paddington to Reading in the evening, although the poorly trained staff at Paddington may try and claim otherwise.
It is priced at £30.10 off-peak return. Which underground station are you travelling to ?0 -
Thank you. It's Finsbury Park so there is the option of tube or train there - tube is easier as the Victoria line is so frequent.0

Ok, if you are going to Finsbury Park then I'd buy Reading - Hertford, or Reading - Potters Bar.
Both tickets are valid on the tube to Finsbury Park from Paddingon, and have no evening restrictions returning from Paddington.0 -
Thank you for the advice. Is there anything I can print out from the net to show that there are no restrictions Paddington-Reading on those tickets?0
