Advice on CSA debt

Options
Just recieved a letter from the CSA advising me that I owe nearly 2k in arrears from september 2012 till now but when I last spoke with them in september they advised that my ex wasnt pursuing the case and that the case was closed unless she contacted them again. I cant find this sort of money and I genuinely do not know what to do. Can I offer my ex an agreement or do I still have to pay this outstanding amount?

Cannot offer any advice but it sounds a bit suspect.!

If you ex didn't pursue the case then there would be nothing to collect.

If she did - you should have been notified and provided with some form of maintnence schedule (or whatever it's called these days). It's possible that they've sent your details to the wrong address (and somehow that's your fault!)

I definitely wouldn't pay anything to anyone just yet.! If the arrears are owed - you may have to pay the CSA directly (and they could well ignore any payment you make to the ex).

Thank you and this is honestly the first I have heard from them since last september so they have let this debt mount up without even informing me this required payment! What on earth shall I do next?

When dealing with an awkward CSA matter the best advice generally given is get your MP involved and make sure you put everything in writing and insist that the CSA respond in writing so that you've got a paper trail...

When is the debt alledgedly from, is it pre the time when Maintenace became exempt from benefits? if so this could be owed to SOS ( if the PWC was inreciept of incoe support at that time) you really need to speak to the CSA and establish where these alledged arears have come from!

Is the debt from Sept to present or is it from pre september? Have you been paying CM direct to your ex since September?

If you have been paying direct and the debt is from Sept to present then she can confirm to the CSA that she has been receiving the payments direct and the arrears will be adjusted.

If its pre September when your case was still live then firstly check the arrears are correct and if they are come to a payment arrangement with the CSA.
