Self employed work

Morning All,

I have got my first 2 mystery shopper jobs today and have been advised to keep a ''cash'' book to document what I have earnt for tax purposes. Only thing is I'm not sure what I should put so far I have 1 line down the left hand side of the book.
Please help.

At the end of each tax year the Company you are working for will provide you with a P60 which will detail what you have earned - and since it is paid net of tax, that too.

Don't worry about keeping a record, it is not necessary, since it will be all done for you.

nb it is earned, not earnt. go to dictionary.com to find spelling!

Unless you're self-employed in which case you need to keep a record of any payments and any expenses (such as travel to/from each assignment). You also need to register with HMRC within 3 months of starting or risk a £100 fine.
Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.

You sound as if you are self-employed. Phone your tax office and ask them. You will find they are helpful. Do keep a note of any job related expenses, presumably the phone calls cost you; so does heat and light. So do pens and paper. It is all legitimate expenditure enabling you to work, so can be offset. You will probably not earn enough to pay tax if it is just casual work, but keep the records anyway. Good luck.
