DMP stepchange reduced payment

Options
Hi,

Need a bit of advice as am now a bit anxious. I'm on a DMP with stepchange who have been nothing short of live savers to me, anyways, my lovely little car is poorly and needs to go to the car doctor.. but the quote is £500 ish pounds and as I dont have an emergency pot I have to find the money from somewhere witout resorting to a pay day lender (how I got in debt in the first place)
Anyway so for June I have to make cutbacks, I rang Stepchange about seeing if I could reduce my amount just for the month.
The lady said I could make a minimum payment, but if it keeps happening (this is the first time) then I will have my plan cancelled. I really dont want this to happen!!! but I need my car for work.
Will my plan be cancelled after 1 month?

sounds like you got someone on a bad day at stepchange tbh - they usually understand that bills crop up unexpectedly and life throws a curve ball at times.

MY dmp with them was put back by 2 months whilst I made nominal payments to creditors and got some priority debts paid off - they understood that it was done for a reason and the spend couldnt be helped.

perhaps go back and speak to them again - see if you can put it on hold for a month or even 2 and in the meantime just make your token payments to all your creditors that way you can get the car back on the road plus build up a bit of an emergency fund. trust me you will need it in the future as once you start the dmp route there is no safety net.

    good luck!
