Work Programme - Travel Expenses

Hi everyone,
Just looking to see what others would do in this situation. I'm on a training course at the moment, when I first got put on the course, my Work Programme advisor said they would cover travel expenses as it was something they've referred me to.
Today my Work Programme advisor asked if the training provider has mentioned anything about a bus pass to me. I spoke to the tutor on the training course about it and they are meant to be sorting a bus pass tomorrow for me.
Anyway, on a Monday and Wednesday, I have the car so I drive on them days. Since found out if you get a bus pass from the training provider, they then won't cover mileage on the days you drive they.
Should I get the bus pass from the training provider, and just cover mileage myself on the two days I drive to the course ?
Or should I tell the training provider I don't need the bus pass, get mileage covered by them on the two days I drive to the course. Then the three days I get the bus, take my bus ticket in to my Work Programme and ask them to reimburse that ?

it would seem to make sense to get the bus pass for five days and suck up the cost yourself on the days you can drive there.0

Or get the bus pass and just get the bus every day, dont drive the days even when you do have the car. You wont have to pay at all then.0

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting the bus pass for the 5 days and suck up the cost on the days I can drive there.
As I know that the training course will cover mileage on any days I drive there. Is it worth at all mentioning it to my Work Programme and see if they will reimburse travel the couple of days I get the bus. Or is that not worth asking them about really ?0 -
depends how you claim your expenses.0

well if you can easily turn them in each week and it doesnt matter how you travel, it is refundable, then use the car for two days, and bus for three days and claim accordingly, with receipts as required.
If however, they will only reimburse you for the cost of a bus pass for the week, then buy that and claim that back, and suck up the mileage if you choose to use the car for convenience two days a week.0 -
OP you wont get the bus pass and then be able to claim for driving there. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thanks for all the replies, the fact I drive there two days a week I don't really want the bus pass.
What I have been doing so far is the days that I get the bus, I have just took my bus ticket in to the Work Programme and they have reimbursed me. As far as I'm aware that hasn't been a problem.
Just today that my WP advisor asked if the course had told me I could get a bus pass, which would save me going to get travel back off them at the end of each day.0 -
maybe the pass is cheaper and the WP only pay the cheapest method of transportClaire_MUFC wrote: »Thanks for all the replies, the fact I drive there two days a week I don't really want the bus pass.

I have been told that if you only claim NI credits you get no travel costs back as only claimants of JSA get travel costs back, don't know if this is true or not.0
