Hi,
I'm sorry to write this, as I feel that 'today, I will be mostly self -pitying'.. But long story short, I got into a world of debt due to pay day lenders, eventually with the help from this site, I went to Stepchange. Who were a huge help, but am now on a strict budget and little things keep happening where I have to find money to cover things.. then my car breaks down and now I have to find the money for that.. it seems relentless. Every month there is something.. I even nearly went back to a pay day lender but stopped as I reminded myself how awful I felt using them I feel depressed, I've put on 3 st in weight because of the stress of debt and I cant turn to anyone. I feel horrible.
Has anyone else experienced something like this and how did you cope?

When the car breaks down, you need to inform stepchange and they may be able to agree a reduced payment that month.. Have you spoken to them?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I always tend to find that these things happen all at once, and usually when you least need them.
I've been fortunate enough to squirrel away an emergency fund since my dmp, which has been a godsend. I paid £200 on the car at the weekend and had the funds to cover it. If anything else goes now though then I'm in trouble.
No room to tweak your SC budget so that you have a little more leeway?
It does sometimes all feel a bit hopeless so you have my sympathies, but you'll come through it stronger and better than you were before.Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
No I haven't. The payment is due to come out tomorrow. But maybe can tomorrow to see if I can reduce the plan for a month for the end of June. Thank you for your advice.Learning to start again in every aspect one step at a time..

Well the first thing is you do have people to turn to, the wonderful people on here, and you have which is great. Your DMP should allow something for emergency repairs, and a yearly sum for normal repairs. The weight thing is more difficult, in that only you know how that has come about. Have you changed what you eat? Is it comfort eating? Perhaps look for some support on here for ideas for recipes etc. Have you started a diary on here?
There is huge support on here, when you need comfort just come here rather than eat rubbish.
Good luck.0 -
Thank you all for your help. I will speak to stepchange and try to tweak ye olde budget to start an emergency fund. Will look into that now.
Thank you for the other recommendations Harry's dad. Appreciate it.Learning to start again in every aspect one step at a time..

Hi, I have no words of wisdom having neither a payday loan or dmp but I do have debt and a self imposed budget that I struggle with but the alternative is a dmp or debt for majority of my working life and due to personal circumstances I can't face either. But I know that depression and feeling of never never. It's hard but we will all get through this. You have done the biggest step of facing it and sounds like same as me you are going through a period of adjustment to make it liveable.
The things that pop up...are they completely unexpected or something to keep in mind for your budget here on? Can you retweek your budget to allow for an emergency buffer? I still haven't got to grips with putting money aside yet - when things are tight it doesn't feel possible but lots of people on here find ways...and so will we.
