my apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
in 2008 I started seeing a guy who it later turned out had several CCJs in his name and a mortgage which later turned out to be unpaid so his house was repossessed. (not the issue)
we moved into a house which was rented. I stayed for 3 months and left, I also informed the letting agent at the time I had moved out.
Today I received an email from my ex's girlfriend or wife saying that she had bailiffs knocking on her door, looking for me saying I owed thousands of pounds, which is news to me. at most I had a catalogue which I transferred to my new address.
She then went on to tell me that she was taking me to court to sue me for this money, claiming that she paid my debt, thousands of pounds as she kept saying, going on about the fact that she had never had bailiffs at her door.
When I was living with him he claimed tax credits for both of us, which ended up being over paid because he was paid the last lot of money after I left, the tax credits people wrote to me at my mums address saying it was owing,, I wrote to them explained what had happened and in the end they said I am to pay half.
ok thats £75 that found its way to my mums address which is now paid.
she said she has proof that I owe the money, but wont send it to my email address but will happily show it to the police, (police were mentioned because she was getting quite abusive and mentioning my kids).
the catalogue came back when I moved, this has since been paid and closed.
I'm not sure where she is getting thousands of pounds from and she is getting quite threatening saying she will find my address seeing as the bailiffs cannot find it.
I have been to court about 18 months ago and given a fine, so if it was a proper bailiff they would have my address details on file because I was given a fine. (drunk and disorderly yeah i know, dont laugh)
this has all happened 5 years after I left him, which to me sounds a bit dodgy. Surely if it was a court appointed bailiff I would have heard from them myself at my address, seeing as I am registered as living here and surely they wouldn't have gone to her address demanding payment from her because it wasn't hers to pay.
Should I just ignore her until she can provide proof?
Just seems a little bit weird that this is the first I have heard of it, and I know court appointed bailiffs find people pretty quickly but I haven't heard anything.
just dont need the stress at the moment. I'm trying to revise for my exam on Monday, but a friend suggested I ask in here as there's a lot of knowledgeable people here

sorry for all the waffle.

Start by getting your credit records (all three) and check for your name at the old address on the Registry Trust on-line web-site for CCJs.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Why on earth would anyone pay "thousands of pounds" for someone else's debt? She is either mad, or making things up. Ignore her. there is no likelihood at all she will "take you to court", how could she? I susoect that if she has paid anyone's debts it will be his. Are you sure you had no joint debts with him, for which you might both be liable?0

In whose name was the tenancy?
Did you terminate the tenancy properly (formal witten notice)?
In whose name was the Council Tax. Did you inform the Council that you had moved out>If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
when I moved back to my mums I joined experian for this reason, I checked again today, but nothing is showing up. only the bits that are paid. I didn't trust him when I left, he knew all my information and may have gotten credit in my name. but after checking I don't think he has. That is why I am a bit suspicious. The CCJs he had was in his and a former girlfriends name. Nothing to do with me.0

I wrote to the people who the tenency was with, this was with the aid of CAB because i didnt know how to word the letter properly. I was leaving an abusive relationship so wanted all ties cut, if that makes sense.
The council tax was in his name, the electric and that was in both our names but they was key meters. I did catch him one day trying to hide his name on a tenancy agreement so he could get a different meter in my name, but I had informed the supplier of this who said if anything had come through, they would investigate.0 -
You need to do the searches I suggested; he may have taken out accounts in your name.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I have just done the CCJ one as suggested and it says nothing registered at my old address. I suppose thats one good thing.0

Well that makes the likeihood of the bailiffs turing up looking for thousands much less.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
