Tesco Double the Difference advise please

Please advise a newbie - I hope this is the place to ask for help ?

As you can see I am a newbie to these forums and to shopping in Tesco as well ! Do I have to note the SEL price and then check my recept to see if there is a differance ? Then I go to Customer Services and ask for a Double the Differance refund?

The postings seem to be saying that I can't keep doing this ? I should go to different stores and at different times. Why ? If Tesco's have got it wrong will they not make me more than one refund ?

or is it just that the C S department get annoyed with people finding these pricing mistakes and asking for DTD refunds ?

Please advise a newbie - I hope this is the place to ask for help ?

Welcome to the best website around!

With double the difference, you do need to keep an eye on the SELs and if they overcharge you you go to Customer Services and tell them about the error. In my store they then go and check it, in others they just take your word for it. If they have overcharged you then you should get DTD back (which is sometimes more than you spent in the first place!), but watch out for the ones that try just to give you the difference back!

The different stores thing was more for when the did the refund and retain, it was best not to get too well known with that one! In general, if you do not overdo it with the DTD such as buying a whole load of things that you know are overpriced in one shop, then you should be OK.

Good things to look out for are expired offers that are still on display, or new offers on things like meat that are price marked, sometimes you will find they have been wrongly priced.

They will make more than one refund when they get the price wrong, but only when they are not well enough on the ball to remove the SEL etc!

    Have fun!

    Thank you Jane,
I am still not sure how I can tell if the checkout price is wrong ? From a trolly full of goods how can I tell if they have got one wrong ?

Maybe I have to look at the Shelf Edge Price and the price on the item ? then if it is wrong I can get a D T D refund. If that is how it works? then I could buy 10 + of the items and get DTD on them all ? or will they just do it for the first one and then go and change the SEP ?

Have you got D T D on more than one of the wrongly priced items ?

Thanks for trying to help a newbie, if I see you in my Tesco I buy you a bunch of flowers ! lol

    Hi,

I normally just try to remember where I am supposed to be getting bogof or two for £x and check these are on my receipt, I don't bother to check every price that I have been charged.

Once you have been to customer services they will remove the SEL so you can't usually get the same mistake again at the same store but you could look for it in other stores.

Don't forget to check the misprices thread for any possible DTD oppurtunities and add any that you find.

Personally, I am much more into coupon usage these days, I make great savings using these so I wouldn't particularly want to draw attention to myself often at customer services for DTD errors, unless they were big ones.

Thank you for all your help. I see that Harrietxxx writes ...... "" Personally, I am much more into coupon usage these days, I make great savings using these so I wouldn't particularly want to draw attention to myself often at customer services for DTD errors, unless they were big ones.""

Why do you not wish to draw attention to yourself ?? Is there a danger of being banned from the store ? Or do they tend to have a right go at you when you find their pricing mistakes ? :-)

Where do I get these coupons from ?

I am thinking of trying to get hold of old mobile phone to get 500 points from it if I send it off !!

I hope I do not and up in prison trying to get all these pennies off of Tesco ! LOL

If Tesco believes you are actively looking for mispriced items they can refuse to honour the dtd policy, they can, in fact ,bar you from the store. Doesnt seem fair I know as it,s thier mistake, but best to be a bit cicumspect on your expeditions;)

Oooo, you're near my area mister-oxo!

I wouldn't go chasing DTD if I were you, by all means check your receipts and remember any BOGOFS and SELS that you can, but really it was only worth busting a gut over when Tesco used to offer a full refund and let you keep the item (games console or whatever) for free. But sadly that avenue of pleasure has been cut off by Tesco this year.

You can start to build up a voucher/coupon stash by regularly reading the posts about coupons on the Discount Codes & Vouchers threads. Tesco, Asda and Waitrose should let you use barcoded money-off coupons as cash against any shopping (if they stock the item - you don't have to buy it - and subject to the store's voucher policy maximum).

Read the newspaper coupon thread on that board every morning/lunchtime to see if there are any good coupons in the newpapers, and regularly look at other coupon-threads such as MBN's Magazine vouchers/offers thread (tells you what good coupons are in magazines).

You could look for June's copy of Fresh magazine, in cellophane with 'Food Doctor coupons' flashed on the outside. This is mentioned in the magazine thread, costs £2.49 but has £8 of barcoded coupons that any large Tesco should accept as cash off any shopping (maybe not all at once, depends on the till-lad).

Or go and buy some Walkers Sensations crisps (with the 'Win' flashing on the packaging, they may have £1 off coupon inside) or Nestle picapac cereals, (checking first that there are coupons on some of the little boxes by pushing up one of the middle ones within the cellophane and looking for the words 'copies of coupons are not acceptable' on the opposite box). In both cases the coupons you get, if you are lucky, should be worth more than the cost of the products.

If you do all that you'll have a nice handful of coupons to spend instore at Tesco/Asda/Waitrose. This time next year you'll be a coupon-millionaire like me (well not quite but my purse & bag are bursting with vouchers & coupons at the mo!).

No, but I found my copies in a large Sainsburys. Others have posted finding theirs in WH Smith but my nearest branch didn't seem to have it.

Watch out though as I believe the July issue may be out now, you need to find JUNE issue, in cellophane, you can see the Food Doctor coupon leaflet loose in the back.

Do tesco have two policies? Online and in store???

I recently purchased my shopping online and was sent an automated receipt stating the prices paid - It stated uncle bens long grain rice 500g £1.12 but on the actual receipt recieved on the day it stated a price of £1.28

I emailed Tesco and received a 'bog standard' reply (see below*). I emailed them again to say it does not relate to a weighed item but to a prepacked item. Again I receive the same email below. I re-email them and receive the reply:

"I would like to apologise again for any difficulty you may have encountered with your order.

I have now refunded £0.16 back into your account for the following items. This should appear within the next few days.

    QTY Description
1 UNCLE BENS LONG GRAIN RICE 500G

Thank you again for contacting us, and I look forward to your continued custom with us."

I emailed them to say that I thought when you were overcharged you received a credit and the product for free (I wasn't aware of the new policy then).

    They replied:

" We have recently amended this when it comes to an overcharge, and the new policy is:

In the unlikely event that we charge you more than the price shown on the shelf or on the product, we?ll give you double the difference.

I hope this information will be of some help. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. "

Ok, I thought so I should receive double the difference and not just the difference - hence I email them to ask that they do this and not just refund the differnce as previously promised.
But then I got this reply:

" Thank you for your reply.

I'm very sorry, our refund policy applies in our stores for the overcharge, but anything purchsed online, then the refund is just the difference, and not double. "

I of course have emailed them to ask for the link to where it states this online and have yet to receive a reply.

Does anyone know if this is true????

    * " I'm sorry you're unhappy with the amount showing on your order confirmation email. Please let me explain why it was different from what you expected.

When you placed your order the amount you were given, as the total cost of your shopping, was a guide price only. There are a few reasons why your original online total may be different from the amount charged by your delivery store.

We can only give an estimated price on our website for loose fruit and vegetables and for fresh meats and cheeses that are individually weighed and priced. The correct prices for these items can only be charged when they are picked and scanned on the day of your delivery.

Any items you ordered that where not available on the day of delivery, or were substituted, will also affect your final total.

Although we try hard to maintain our website so that our prices online match the prices in-store, there can be daily price changes, so we can't always guarantee they'll be exactly the same.

We deduct any valid special offers and multi-savers before we charge your payment card and your delivery documents will always show the price charged for each item and your final total cost.

I'm sorry you were disappointed on this occasion. Thank you for taking the time to ask us about this. "
