Cannot claim daily allowance

Hi
I wonder if one of you clever people can tell me if some Inland Revenue legislation exists or not please?
Basically, I am going to be working in Sweden for my company for 6 months on a short term assignment. The department in Stockholm that are paying my current uk department for my services, have agreed to pay certain values for my hourly rate, daily expense limit, and travel costs.
I have colleagues there now that managed to receive a daily allowance of £60 (including Sat and Sun). This would be great as I'm sure it would be a tough challenge to spend that on food/drink etc every day! However, my company are now claiming that there is some recent Inland revenue legislation stating that daily allowances are no longer possible. Is this the case?
From now on I have to expense/get receipts for everything up to this £60 limit. Therefore no opportunity to make some extra money, and hence no longer a perk to travel abroad for work.
I asked the question that although we cannot put a daily allowance claim through our expenses system, is there another way. They got my hopes up for a while saying I needed to fill in a 'change of status form' to get it paid into my wages. However, they then said about this IR legislation.
So basically, is there another method to get hold of this allowance, or is there nothing I can do?
I'm leaving on the 6th June. So if one of you nice people can advise by then, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Justin
