I use ecoballs on my daughters cloth nappies - never had a problem. She is 9 months old, on solid food - and some of the nappies are pretty disgusting! Whites go a bit dingy, but leave them on the line and they get bleached by the sun. A

  • We tried these a couple of years back. The washing looked clean but it didn't smell great, especially if drying indoors because of wet weather.
  • Tell me - have you tried using NOTHING at all compared to eco-balls?
In other words, according to several surveys I've seen, they actually do nothing at all that plain water would.

Additionally, my mum called me and asked me if my plumbing skills could work out why her dishwasher wasn't working properly. There was a thin film of grease on the plastic things, and a glass casserole dish didn't come out clean like it used to.
I checked that the water was being heated and that there weren't any blocked filters and that the soap door was opening and that the rinse aid wasn't blocked.
THEN she told me she'd just started using EcoLino dishwasher powder.

Remembering the washballs saga, I got her to run it with NO powder. Exactly the same result!
If half the stuff needs re-washing when it comes out, and something is being made and packed and transported which actually does nothing, that's surely not very eco!
