Didn't get job center letter

Today I had a text message to remind me about my appointment at the job center tomorrow
I had to ring them to find out why as I had not been informed of this. I was told a letter was sent out but I never received it.
It wouldn't normally matter but it is half term and I have been promising my five old if he is good that we can go on a day trip out tomorrow, he has been looking forward to it all week and I have been making a big thing about it. I did tell the job centre this but of course that doesn't make a difference, I was just told I have to be available at 5 minutes notice to come in. We will go out Friday now instead but it is not nice to hear when your child turns round asks why? has he had not been good enough to go?
I should look on the bright side at least I received a text regarding it otherwise I would have been sanctioned for not turning up when I knew nothing about it.

When your child asks why, surely you will just say you have an appointment and so you will go out another day? I doubt it will cause him any harm!0

Not really a hardship is it?
I guess you have 7 days in the week to pick from if not working?0 -
Much the same as when you are working and you have to do an extra shift, it's a case of sorry kiddo, Mummy has to work but we'll go on Saturday instead. At least you don't have to find a babysitter as well.0

Would people be saying the same if they missed an important letter or would be they be annoyed or fuming ?0
