Tax help please

I wasnt *suggesting* anything. What I was trying (and failing) to get across was that the pension would eat considerably into her tax allowance.
Like I said, maybe my wording was off.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
Thanks again all of you for your help.
My pension is more than the tax allowance as I paid in extra years ago.
I have sent a letter to the Tax Office stating what I think I should be able to claim allowances for i.e. office as constituents visit me here and I need to work from home, telephone, postage, printing and even broadband costs as I need to access the Council's website for information and download documents for people and myself.
Bit cheeky but nothing ventured nothing gained.0 -

Is this the state pension you mentioned earlier? How did you pay in extra?
If it's more than the tax-free allowance you may owe the tax man money.0 -

HMRC are unable to advise you on each expense as we have a self-assessment system so it is up to you to claim on your tax return for what is allowable.
The obvious questions here are:
1. If these are wholly, exclusively & necessarily required why are they not reimbursed?
2. What do your colleagues on the Council do?0 -
I would like to be self assessed rather than PAYE but not sure if this is possible.
JEM16 these are the additional amounts which take me over £5225 allowance
Additional State Pension to 5.4.97 is £25.63p
Additional State Pension based on earnings 78-97 £27.97
Additional from 2002 £11.23
Graduated Retirement Benefit £0.32p0 -

Now I'm with you.
These "extras" all come from SERPS and S2P and were based on your earnings at the time - nothing really to do with paying extra. You will probably end up with a K code as your state pension is higher than the personal allowance.
My dad has a state pension and a private pension and has to fill in the short tax return each year. You may find you will have a tax return to do as well but I'm sure you can ask to do one so you can claim any allowances due. That was why I suggested phoning HMRC and asking them.0
