I posted a while ago about my partners tax problems. HMRC have been chasing him for about £2000 tax underpayment over about 2 years. He had actually paid £11,000 over the past 13 months or so, we knew there was a discrepancy somewhere.

We have been this morning for a meeting with our local HMRC inspector and he was SO helpful.

My partner had all his correspondence from HMRC with him: P60's, P11D's and letters he has received. The inspector went through it all with him, his past employment, dates etc and agreed that previous employers hadn't always passed on the relevant info when he moved jobs.

He says he should expect a rebate which is good but what is even better is that finally (hopefully) his tax for 13/14 will be sorted and he won't be paying silly amounts of tax every month. Last August he paid £1400 in tax, which killed us!

So, if you can GO and talk to them, face to face. Go with all the relevant documents and talk it through with them.

Fingers crossed he is now sorted as it's very stressful and frustrating!
