Self build mortgage or normal mortgage

Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice.

I've found a property I would like to buy. Problem is, it's just a shell. There are rooms, but no bathroom, toilet, kitchen etc.

I can't figure out if I need a normal (residential) mortgage or a specialist self build mortgage. I've just sold my house and we have a large deposit to put down, as well as keeping some money to one side for the works/bathroom etc needed.

I know there will be alot of work involved, to turn it into a habitable property, but I think the pain and hard work will pay off and we could turn it into a great family home.

So, which type of mortgage do I need to apply for? I can imagine I need to put a deposit down of at least 20%!

Thanks in advance

To meet the requirements for a standard mortgage product the property needs to be habitable. Which clearly this isn't.

Google Buildstore. This will give you ideas as to types of finance available.
