Mortgage

Can anyone recommend a mortgage broker?

We are first time buyers with a good credit record and a 15% deposit for the house we want to buy.

We have made contact with London & Country, but so far not been overly impressed with the service - no answers to emails, phone calls. I realise we are nervous first time buyers who may need an amount of guidance/hand holding, so a local face to face service (in the first instance til we gain confidence) may be preferable.

According to MSE we should be looking for a whole market broker - fee free if possible?

Any recommendations?

Poor service from L&C. Local broker will be better.

How much are you looking to borrow? Fee free may not be possible on a small loan

House we want is on market at 175 (6 months plus so hopefully open to offers). If we can get it for 165 max it would be 25k deposit plus 140 mortgage.

at what point do you pay a fee? We are nervous to start laying out cash and be declined mortgage/house sale fall through.

ps. ideally we'd be aiming for 160, but might be too cheeky an offer

The point at which a fee is payable varies. Some charge on application, some at point of offer, others at completion.

It is something that needs to be agreed up front by all parties.

Don't worry about it. Explain your situation to the broker and be guided through the process.
