Scam telephone call

I hope I have posted this in the right section!

I received a missed call from 02073451299 today, so I called them back expecting it to be a telemarketer with no pick up.
To my surprise they did answer and when I said I had a missed call from them they asked me if I had entered a competition to win a Mini Cooper, an Ipad and then she mumbled a few other things.
I said I may have and she wanted to check a few security details.

She said my name and I confirmed this was correct, then she told me my address; I said it was wrong as I had not lived there for a while. I asked her if she could tell me when I entered this competition and she replied 'oh a few months ago'. I pointed out to her that I had not lived in that address for over a year.

'Oh well, someone must be using your details. Anyway let me confirm a few more things' to which I cut her off and said no one should be using my details! I asked her could she email me more information about this competition, she cut me off and said 'ok thank you for your call, goodbye' and hung up on me!

I thought best to look this number up when I got home from work and people have confirmed it is indeed a scam, but tis a wee bit worrying!
Anyone else had experience from this number?

I have had a few people ring up saying the same to me - have I recently entered to win an ipad, tv etc.... Anyway, when they told me to confirm my email - the email they asked me to confirm was an old email that I had not used in at least four years! So alarm bells immediately started ringing and I did the same as you - hung up on them. I knew I no longer used that email and had disabled it years ago! They must think we are STUPID!

I have had the same, they mention that I may have entered a competition but when questioned go a bit vague, one got a bit bolshy with me and said my details had been sold on and I should take it up with my phone provider. Any time this has happened I have googled the number to find many others have had the same problem. It is very sad that people try to make money from scamming the innocent.

They appear to try different tactics - lottery syndicates as well: http://www.nuisancecalls.org.uk/showthread.php?12632-02073451299-Read-this-if-had-calls-from-02073451299

Douchebags! Save the number and mark it as "send to voicemail" :/

The thing is - when you get a call and they say something like 'have you recently entered to win an ipad?, I always have to say 'emmm yes' as I enter so many comps, I can never remember what I have entered and when! Caution only sets in if they start trying to confirm details that are wrong or out of date. So many scammers out there! We have to be on our toes at all times!

I hate scam phone calls. Slighty off subject but my partner had someone ring yesterday going 'You were in an accident a couple of years ago' ectect when my OH asked what details of his they had, they said 'all we have is your phone number, we aren't given your name or address because of data protection' - his reply was 'and you being given my phone number isn't part of that?' she soon shut up then put the phone down.

I know its their job to call people but why would anyone go for a job where they just get abuse and the phone put down on them all day???

Since joining in Jan 12, I have only had one phone call *touch wood* and that was a guy ringing to talk to me about cases of wine lol. He said I had opted to speak to them...must have missed that tick box!! But when I said I couldn't talk (I had just walked in to a salon to get my nails done :O)) he said he'd call back but never did.

I have had this number ring me today.

I listened patiently as I have entered that many comps, anyway could hardly tell what the man was saying (not very clear spoken english) when I told him I couldn't understand him he just shouted his words, I realised it was a scam & told him my husbund doesnt allow me to enter anything on the phone (NB:- he seemed to be offering some sort of syndicate)

He than proceeded with would your husband mind you winning a million pounds......
I hung up....wiser...but a few minute of my life wasted on lowlifes :( when I could have been comping :rotfl: and really winning stuff !

  • I also received a call from these people today. She was very pushy and persistent and I ended up hanging up when she very rudely kept trying to talk over me about her 5p lottery ticket offer. Grrrr
  • Ooh I'm off topic too but laurenpurdy123 reminded me, I have only once had a scam "accident" call, which would have come from entering a dodgy comp. The guy took the tack of assuming I drove a car and started speaking as if my "accident" was common knowledge hoping to get a bite. When I said I wasn't in an accident he said something about my car, to which I replied that wasn't possible as I don't have a car (a lie, but I wanted to see what he would say). It was worth it, he went "You DON'T have a CAR???" in the most incredulous tone ever and when I said yes he told me that he hopes I do well enough in life to be able to get one soon and hung up on me! :rotfl:
