This is the THES First impressions competition - and I actually know the answer this week (with a little help from my friend mr google)

This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a scientist with a connection to Dr Who:
"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones."
* Entries, including postal address, should be sent to First Impressions, The Times Higher, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1BX, faxed to 020 7782 3300 or e-mailed to theschat@thes.co.uk
The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is May 29.
The winner of last week's competition, who identified China Correspondent by Agnes Smedley, is Tara Jones of London.

I met Richard Dawkins once, when I graduated, he got the honorary degree, pretty sure it was him anyway
