Help To Buy Scheme

First time buyer, and have an appointment with an IFA (within an EA branch, from what I can see - looking at the Unbiased.co.uk's website - they are definitely independent) to get a mortgage in principle. All dandy.
So my ultimate goal is to use the Government's Help To Buy's scheme to help towards the house.
My only confusion is who do I need to see to start that process off? Once I've got the mortgage in principle, once I found a house I like and can afford, who starts that process off? Do I need to make the application myself? If so? To whom? When should I be doing that?
Sorry if these are daft questions, but it seems rather daunting!

I have just gone through the same process. Your financial advisor/broker will get the mortgage in principle for you. Once you know what you can borrow you look for a property, and make an offer through the estate agents. If its accepted the broker should handle all the mortgage paperwork and survey if its through the lender, and you need to appoint a conveyancing solicitor, the broker may be ale to recommend if you wish, then they can liaise between them.
As for the help scheme, most brokers should be familiar with this and be able to guide you step by step.
My broker has been brilliant, he has handled everything for me.
Hope to complete in a few weeks!0 -
Hi there. Kingstreet provided a great list in another thread:
- HTB affordability calculator completed by broker
- decision in principle for mortgage
- reservation of property with builder
- completion of property information form by you
- submission of forms to HCA HomeBuy Agent (my broker did this)
- issue of Authority To Proceed
- full mortgage application
- mortgage offer, exchange of contracts etc.
Here's the link the the thread:
