I do accounts for a company that sells stuff to the construction industry.

All I can tell you from my work is that we run an E bay shop and pay quite a lot in fees so if you see something off an E bay shop and can collect then phone them up and offer to collect and pay cash and you may be able to negotiate a discount as you are saving them ebay/paypal fees and effort of arranging a courier.

The only other thing I have learnt here is it pays to shop around but Martin tells us that anyway.

A friend of mine is a lecturer in a catering college. I have been to the training restaurant there on a number of occasions. The food is next to nothing as its cooked by the students. Well worth a try for a cheap lunch. Best to ring the colleges up though as sometimes you need to book well in advance as it is very popular. I cater in a golf club. And most golf club food is subsidised. Again try it out for a cheap lunch. You dont always need to be a member either. Look out for new pub openings as wll. Usually on the first night they give away the food. If anyone does drink coke out of the dispenser ask the bar staff not to put to much ice in your drink. Its a neat trick that was used by the pub company i worked for. 16oz glasses filled to the brim with ice. Well you can guess how much coke or whatever got in the glass.

And on the 8th day at 0755, just before colours, God looked down upon the eath and he was not a happy man. God knew he had not quite achieved perfection, so he thought about his labours, and in his infinite wisdom, he created a divine creature, his masterpiece, and this he called a Submariner, a child of heaven..

And these Submariners, whom god created in his own image, and to whom he gave his most cherished gift, a white woolly jumper, were to be, and to them he gave more of his greatest gifts. He gave them black steel messengers of death called the P and O Class in which to roam the depths of his oceans and he gave them his arrows and slingshots, the Mark 23 Torpedo or burnished gold and blue and the Tigerfish of grey to wage war against the forces of Satan and all evil. He heaped great knowledge and understanding uopn them, in order that they may more easily win their greatest challenge to pass their training and be skilled in the great works God had charged them with. The finest of these men, God called 'Sparkers' for they made all happen beyond the understanding of other men.

He gave his Submariners hotels in which to live when they were exhausted and weary from doing Gods will. He gave them a shilling or two a day extra victualling allowance, to sustain them in their arduous tasks, performed in his name. He gave them 'Hard Layers', 'Submarine Pay' and occasionally, subsistence so that they might entertain the Ladies of the 'Albany', 'R.A', the 'Mucky Duck' and the 'Fleece' on Saturday nights and impress the hell out of creatures he called 'Skimmers' and 'Royal Marines'.

And at the end of the 8th day, God again looked down upon the earth and saw all was good in his realm. But God was not happy because, in the course of his almighty labours he had forgotten one thing. He had not kept a white woolly jumper for himself. But he thought about this and considered it and finally he consoled himself, in the certain knowledge that,

hi all, I work for a fitness club.

-One important thing I'd suggest people do when joining a club is ensure that they read the terms and conditions before joinging, many people are unaware of the length of contract and notice period.
-Ask in adance if there are any joining offers in the near future, some staff are nice and will tell you if they know but these are generally planned last minute and so staff are informed last minute.
-visit the gym at the times you would be using the gym so you get an accurate picture of how busy it is rather than view at quiet times and realise too late that it's busier when you wish to use it
-Take advantage of all aspects of the membership, ie if you can get programs with instructors do it, if classes are included try them all at least once!
-Join up with one or more friends, if you have several you COULD go with your more likely to be able to get regularly (unless your happy enough to go alone)

I do something completely different now, but nearly ten years ago I did the Sainsbury's graduate management trainee programme. While I did this, I stayed with a Sainsburys landlord for oooh, the first week, before I could find somewhere permanent to live nearby. They were paid a retainer to be on the books as a standby 'spare room' to rent, and while I was living there, they got the equivalent of £50 a week (taken from my wages but paid through the company), and had to provide me with a hot meal every night as well as my own room and access to a bathroom. I can't remember how much they got a week - about £12 springs to mind but that might be wrong.

I don't know if it's still the case, but they did this because they liked their managers to be able to transfer to other stores at the drop of a hat and it was the least they could do to help out with some temporary accommodation. If they've since stopped expecting managers to be able to do this, they may have stopped the 'landlord' scheme.

However, if they are still doing it, and if you have a spare room and want to make a bit of cash out of it without anyone necessarily ever living there, it might be a plan for you, speak to the Store Managers' PA if you can, or the person on the customer service desk might know because it used to be their job to hand over the cheque every now and then.

I am a learning support teacher. If your child is struggling with school work and you would like to give them some extra practise don't buy the write in booklets that usually come in A4 size (often with sticky stars), costing about £2.99. More exciting and free resources can be found on the internet.
