That, and removing financial incentives to have children. Then get rid of the mechanisms that are totally reliant on an ever increasing population. A change to the state pension so that it is fully funded and invested and removal of all defined benefit schemes from the public sector. Let's get people working for themselves, instead of themselves and three other people.

Over what sort of timeframe do you envisage this being implemented?

I think they could take a lead from the various pensions changes and stake a point in the future, say 12 months from now and say that child releated benefits will now be removed for all subsequent children. If people then decide to have kids, then they will do it in the knowledge that they will be financially responsible for their own children. I'd imagine that we'd soon see a decline in the birthrate and a move away from large families.

Unfunded public sector pensions could be withdrawn by next April, replaced by defined contribution schemes where the employer contributions were in line with the private sector average.

The state pension is a tougher nut to crack because it never should have been set up as a pyramid scheme in the first place. It'd have to be phased over a couple of generations. Nothing new there, it's taking decades to get women retiring at the same age as men.

If you knew it was "hear" instead of "here", then why didn't you type that in the first place?

By the way it's "their OS" not "there OS". :)
