HI, not sure if i'm on the right thread but wondering if you could help me. A while ago due to illness and my hubbie losing his job we ended up in debt and it's resulted in one of me having an attachment of earings from one of my loans on my wage. However, due to ill-health again i'm on long-term sick and i'm now on half pay. I got a letter from the court this morning saying,
'hearin to show cause why AEO SHOULD NOT BE VARIED by reducing the monthly payment and protected earnings rate to NDR £30.00 and PER £700.00 month'
I assume it means they want to continue taking the full amount even though i'm on half wage, is this right??
thanks in advance.

Hi,
Just to translate - NDR is Normal Deduction Rate. This is how much they will take out of your wages. PER is Protected Earnings Rate. This is how much you have to earn (after tax, I think - you may like to check) before they can make any deduction. This means that Unless you earn more than £700 per month, they will not be taking any money out of your wages. If you earn £715 per month, they can only take £15 out - you have to be left with £700.
NB Make sure your wages department understand this.
Hope this helps, and that you feel better soon.
