Advice needed: Loans after BR

Hi everyone - I need a bit of advice. I went bankrupt in 2004. I had struggled with a lot of debt that I had been left with when splitting up from my partner in 2001 (and he had a breakdown, so I took on the debt). I can't blame anyone else though as its was my fault that it later got out of control.
I was discharged in April 2005. I made all the payments I needed to the OR, I now have a great job, I earn good money, and I am happy with my new partner.
But I am guessing that I may have actually only just got myself through the easy part till now:(
In order to change jobs (and start working outside London) I need a car. Not a new one - a second hand one, but I need one all the same. I am fully prepared for the fact that I am a credit risk, and that I need to pay high rates due to my credit history (and to help rebuild it), but it seems that even people who apparently "specialise in people like me" cant help me? Or can offer me half of what I want to borrow as long as it is secured by a homeowner (which I cant do).
I'm just feeling a bit depressed with it all today. I really want to avoid going to someone like Yes Car Credit and paying 3 times what the car is worth. Does anyone have any advice? Even if its just stop beating yourself up by trying!!
Have always tried to stay positive about this but today I feel low

Aawww sorry. Wish I could offer something upbeat but it appears that this is likely to remain the same situation for 6 years after BR. Can you not make do with a cheaper car for the time being. Do you know anybody who would be able to advise you with regards to a car, maybe at auctions or on eBay?BSC Member 59 - AD 29th March 2008

Hi Marmite
awful news, I must say. Do you have any other credit agreements, say a contract mobile phone? These often help to build up your credit score. Also, have you checked your credit record to make sure all default are marked with satisfied?
Its a pain, but do you have any savings - or maybe could you save £200 a month? Every little helps.BCSC Member 70:j

Hi Neko - yes I do have a contract phone. I also have a £2000 catalogue limit with JD Williams. Not that I use it for large purchases, but its good to have it. I think when you are a bankrupt you feel like no one trusts you eh?
Yes I have worked out this afternoon that I can probably save that a month, but after a life of running old bangers I thought I might get something a bit more reliable this time. Ho hum, worse things happen!0
