Great to hear someone getting some good news

My only little comment on your SOA would be that you could maybe get a cheaper gym sub - I work in a college and our gym has really good rates for non-employees (free for us!), could be worth checking out if you're near a college or uni. But can understand if you'd want to stay where you are if you like the facilities or know/ meet up with other people there.

    Good luck!

I am really not good at keeping this up-to-date!!

Anyway, had a reasonable month - its payday tommoro and have £4.67 left so i have just paid onto CC the remaining money. Its only a few quid but i quite like having a clean sheet to start the next month with! Did go slightly over food budget but OH transferred extra into joint a/c so didn't affect my budgeting :p

Got confirmation of new job. According to online PAYE calculator thing salary will be £1790-odd after tax,NI and student loan payments. Thats almost an £800 increase and so i hope to get debts paid off super fast! Start in October so its ages away but i do feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel :D

Apart from that i have ebayed a few bits and bobs but not much left to sell to be honest! I wish i knew where some of the people on there get the wholesale electrical stuff to sell on for profit. The best i can manage is getting stuff for practically free in Boots and selling it on in nice gift sets

Got £125 quidco tracking but no sign of it being paid yet

Keep thinking about getting round to sorting out matched betting but i think im a bit too scared!

Fantastic news about the new job - that will make a huge dent in your debts :T

Know what you mean about selling loads on ebay, I am down to my last box but TBH am glad, have ebayed constantly for a month and am well and truly fed up of it now!

Re MB, I would consider giving it a go, I started a few weeks ago and it is not that hard once you get going. I would print off the introductory thread and read it (many times) and then have a practice. PM if you need any help.

    Feeling good about debt-managment today.

I got £35 quidco cashback from sorting my car insurance in april yey and also got £22 a mate owed me for entering him in a race the other week. So i put the £57 straight onto highest apr CC and its now below £100 owed :j

I can't wait until my first one is paid off in total - think it will be a good motivator to get other CC and overdraft sorted as soon as possible.

If i am super thrifty i may get it done out of this months budget, if not then certainly on payday on 31st :p

Haven't listed anything on ebay for ages, i don't think i have much left to sell  . I think i'll have a deeper hunt round tonight - if i could raise the final few ££s through that it would be satisfying.
  • REALLY REALLY BAD DFW DAY YESTERDAY

As i have mentioned in other threads, my car died a sudden death a couple of weeks ago. I have spent the time since cycling to work but its 8 mile trip mainly on a very very busy and manic A road in Leeds - and to be honest its scared me to death! I've been sat at work not wanting to make the journey home :o in fear for my life (seen 3 cyclists knocked off in the 10 days ive cycled!) so after a chat with OH i decided enough was enough - i needed to get a new car.

I could have got a loan - can easily manage repayments come october and new job but would struggle until then. So OH offered to loan me the money (0%) which is great.

Now comes the really bad DFW bit - i always intended to get a new car towards xmas time because new job involves client meetings etc and the image to want to present for promotions etc needs a decent looking car (i used to drive a clapped out rover) so after days of research and searching autotrader planning to buy another banger to tide me over i did the sums and decdied to go for a decent one straight away

So anyway, a grand total of £6800 later i am the proud owner of a new shape astra which is lovely and am very excited about collecting on wednesday!

Obviously that means my debt has significantly increased  but i am not as unhappy as i could be. I don't think this means my lightbulb has shut down. Previsouly i would have bought it on 30% finance or something without much thought. I feel a bit like i've let this board down but here is my argument for still being allowed to be a member:
    • i really really did try to get used to cycling - but health has to be considered
    • i did think about buses etc but i work unpredictable hours and often have to pop in at midnight to look after an experiment
    • i thought carefully about what car i needed / wanted / could afford and made sure it was a sensible balance between the three!
    • i have borrowed the money on 0% finance (OH) til october
    • in october i will get a low rate, flexible loan (am thinking Zopo) which will allow me to overpay with no penalty
    • i aim to have the loan cleared in 18months-2years
    • the car will last me AT LEAST 5 years, maybe more.
Please someone tell me i'm not a total failure? I'm feeling a bit delicate today :o
  • New debt list

    CC 1: [STRIKE]£419.36[/STRIKE] £87.83 :D
    CC 2: [STRIKE]£452.35[/STRIKE] £286.68
    OvDr: £2000
    OH Loan 1: £850
    OH Loan 2 (car 14/7/07): £6800

    Total [STRIKE]£3721.71[/STRIKE] £10,024.51
  • Planned SOA for October onwards:

    Mortgage £645.76
    Electric £37
    Gas £28
    House Ins £30.05
    Water £30.90
    BT £12
    AOL £25
    Food £250
    Council Tax £77
Total = £600 (OH pays other half)

    Gym £39.95
    Life Ins £5.86
    Petrol £40
    Car Ins £30
    'Me' money £80
savings for car mot, tax and RAC cover: £30
    savings for xmas/bdays/holidays: £30

Income = £1800 leaving £945 for debt payments (minus a few intital expenses such as smart work clothes etc)

So at that rate i COULD be still debt free in a year :j :j
