Your travel costs, how many miles per week do you travel? If it is more than 150 miles per week then you can apply for a Departure/variation for high travel to work costs. Are any of the debts that you are paying all yours for which you remain the beneficiary? What I mean, is did any of the debts originate from the relationship and did the pwc keep the benefit of what the debt was for? If so, this is another ground on which you can apply for a Departure.

I travel any where from 2 to 12 miles a day for work, well under 150 a week .
Found out if i am on the new system i pay about £52 a week with having kids over. Would I be able to be assessed on new system?

Yes i carried a lot of debts over, but unfortunetly all credit cards and bank account with big overdraft (due to having 6 months on sick) was in my name!

When i was last assessed at £100 (about seven years ago) I worked for a low basic wage but was paid a tax free allowance for being in europe for 2 weeks. So would i have to pay arrears from when i started work on agency 3 years ago?

And I can remember something about work at the time saying that DWP kept phoning them up (wages dept. knew it was CSA trying to find out how I could pay a £55,000 mortgage on a basic salary of £9,000.. cheeky sods!)
, even though i was paying CSA via DEO, but work wanted everything in writing, is that the correct way for my present work to do?

I agree that I must pay towards my kids upkeep, but also I don't want to end up bankrupt and homeless!!

    TIA

It doesn't matter if the accounts were in your name if you had debts, but anything you bought on credit card won't be allowed anyway. However, if you had any loans which she still has the benefit of, say, a new kitchen, or car then you could apply for a departure/variation to get a reduction. Also, how many nights per week do the children stay over? If it is 2 per week, then you should also qualify for a reduction for shared care.

You can't be assessed under the new system unless the PWC closes the case, waits 13 weeks and then reapplies, or you are involved in another new case.

The only way you will have arrears is if you don't pay your assessment when it is due, or an assessment takes ages to be calculated, which is higher than a current one. If the CSA asked you for your details 3 years ago and didn't do the assessment as you didn't give the info, or they caused delays then you could get an arrears bill, however, if they never asked for the information to do an assessment, then you won't.

It is a fair question to ask how you could afford to pay a large mortgage compared to such a low income, but if your employer confirmed your income then there isn't a problem.

The CSA will send your employer the info in writing anyway, but they can phone and ask for certain stuff - your employer is within their rights to ask for written confirmation as it could be anybody asking for it!

Just gone through some old CSA paperwork, found one from 2002 and mentioned my arrears where £1245, also about the time i had a zero assessment.

Last week i was told that they are £2500

I know that i have been paying £25 arrears every month since then, along with my regular payments.

What should i do next, to find out if it is correct?

    TIA

Get an account breakdown which you should get from the Accounts team. You can compare the assessments and charges and see where any discrepancies lie. They can't add interest to it, so it does seem odd. PM me if you need any help in deciphering it!

Last week got a letter from CSA, new assessment of £50 a month , down from £400 a month (including arrears) for my daughter, been told i have arrears of £2800 and will pay back at £50 a month.

Last night i took my kids (nearly 14 and 17  now) back home after their weekend with me.

Dropped kids off at BFH's usual place... her local pub, she comes out blowing her top at me, saying that if i don't pay her the £2800 arrears i owe her and £200 a month she will stop me seeing the kids!

Yet my lad is nearly 17 and has his own moped and works, can't see her stopping him lol, and my daughter wants to live here when she 16.

Also i am now set up as Ltd Co, not much better off but means i can switch between jobs and not worry about tax.. just leave it till end of my financial year.
  • just had belfast CSA on phone to me, telling me i have 2 years to pay my arrears off!?!

is this right? can they do this?

and now arrears have gone upto £3500 !!!!
