Not quite enough: how long ago is that two year gap, and how long did you have the sales job for?

If it helps, I think it would be MORE of a problem if you were still in the '2 years and counting' jobless stretch. Also you have had good reasons for stopping work (in other words, you weren't dismissed, you weren't on long term sick leave yourself.)

Oh right. Well the sales job was for a year. That ended 3 months ago. The other job was before that, from 2003 - 2010. Then my big gap :(

    OK, let's try ...

2010 - 2012: After x company closed I used this opportunity to take a career break and devote more time to family responsibilities. (if you got a redundancy package - as I imagine you should have done - then worth saying so, people often take a break after redundancy!)

Feb 2013: the job at y company was a temporary position to cover long term sick leave, and I was very sorry to leave when the original employee was able to return to work.

I'll let others shoot that down in flames now ...

BTW, do make sure the sales job know you're still looking from time to time. You never know, they might want you back if anything else happens, or anyone gets pregnant etc.

Its harder if like me who got no redundancy package to pretend you had a pay out but if you did you can say you have been doing up the house, travelling, evaluating where you want to go next etc

Ive got gaps in my CV where I was unemployed and not volunteering, although I did volunteer for a long spell the last time I was unemployed, its made no difference to getting jobs. There are many people out of work at the moment.

My brother also got a full time job after a long spell of being out of work, it didnt cause him problems and he was 30 when he started working for that company, he was studying to be a PT but he got offered a job in a gym and finished his PT course later.
