Breach of contract advice

Hi I left a previous role to work for a competitor and my ex employer is threading to sue me for breach of my contract which had a non competitor clause.

My signed contract is under [company a] but 1 month after I left the company changed names to [company b] does this make the contract void as I wasn't informed?

Also my salary and payslips are under a different name [company c] so it's all very confusin?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

The change from a to b is irrelevant, you weren't working for the company at that point so why would they need to tell you at all? You might need to explain a bit more about company c, but more relevant would be to tell us the exact wording of the non-competitor clause. And also a bit more about the industry, and the geographic location of your new employer in relation to the old one.

I'm also wondering if this is a simple name change or a dissolution/pheonix company which isn't entitled to pursue you.
