Leasing a car from a taxi private hire company

Hello

Am just wondering how it works ?

I know you pay an amount each month towards the car, but how long for ? What if you want to change the car in 3 years time ? What if it breaks down ?

Anyone know any info ?

If you have got your taxi badge then you jocky a plated car off someone, normally on a week to week basis which includes all repairs and servicing. Do yo have your taxi badge or do you just want to hire a car?

Note that you can't hire a taxi unless you're licensed as a taxi driver in the area.

What I mean is that some taxi company's say they do car leasing if you work for them.

So if I was to get my taxi badge and join a taxi company I was wondering what car leasing means / how long des the lease go on for? What if the car gets trashed by customers? What if I want another car on lease from them ?

Get your badge, find a taxi firm and jocky/hire a car off them. Normally cars are hired on a weekly basis and new drivers get the crappest cars but you are not confined to hiring off the taxi firm, quite often some drivers will also hire them out. Wear and tear is generally expected and repairs and servicing is sorted by the owners. You can sort out your own taxi insurance but you can also go on the firms group policy for anything between £60-£100 per week.
After you have tried the job out and think its for you then you can bring your costs down by getting your own car/insurance but note that once the car is plated for private hire it can only be driven by a badged driver unless the licencing council gives exemptions.

  • I have done 3 different ways during my time.

    1) I hired a Private Hire/Hackney Vehicle for a set amount every week plus a percentage of the jobs through the office. Hackney jobs you are responsible for reporting to the tax man yourself. Good option of the vehicle needs tyres, brakes etc as this was down to the owner.

    2) Hired a hackney plate from an individual (as they are restricted on our authority) and put this on my own vehicle. you are responsible for everything except the renewal fees every year to the authority.

    3) Have now purchased my own car and hackney plate. This is the only way you will make any decent money from a Taxi career.
