Monday 27th May - What small DFW things will you do today ?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

    Morning gang,

Thanks to LPP for starting the thread - hope work is ok

I've not been around much as work/life/work/college/work has been stupidly busy as usual, but I need to keep my head below the parapet for a while :o

I've not had much of a fun weekend - we have all been housebound as hubby is saving for a new car and I am so bored - I have a lot of college work to do, but can't really be bothered

    Today I have/will:
    • Meals from stores - we had a new freezer delivered yesterday, which is a bit smaller than the last, so we are having odd dinners
    • Have checked banking
    • Had an early payday on Saturday (payday tomorrow) so moved all the bill money to to my savings account
    • Moved pennies to aat fund
    • Must do college work
    • Watching bits n bobs on the sky box
    • Put pennies into my coke bottle
    • Need to shower and have an early night
    • Need to make breakfast and lunch for tomorrow
    • Need to charge my phone - as it is a new phone it charges quickly
    • Need to keep an eye out for jobs
    • Update sig with new debt figures

    Think that's about it

Take care all, love you all

    • Go to Asda and do the weekly shop
    • Tidy up of the flat
    • Swagbucks/Adpoints
    • Have a LSD as going to Asdas
Think that's all from me, have a good day all! x

    Morning gang!

LPP - thanks for starting us off
DNMS - looks like you had a busy weekend! Hope the baby shower was fun
Sazdaz - thoughts for you family. My granddad had a bleed on the brain last year but he has recovered well and hopefully your relative will too :)
Bobarella - thanks for the link yesterday. Good food for thought. Esp after my preoccupation with failure epiphany.

Thanks to everyone for their congratulations re the promotion.
Perni - I actually paid off my last debt at the end of April (still need to concentrate on budgets though, hence the continued posting!).

The excellent news continued over the weekend as my best friend got engaged so now I get to be a bridesmaid (sooo excited, have never actually been a bridesmaid before - always the bride, never the bridesmaid :p)

Had a nice relaxing day yesterday. I picked up a copy of Geisha by Liza Dalby for £1 and sat in the garden reading. It's very interesting and I'd def recommend it. It's very clear where Arthur Golden got a lot of his inspiration for Memoirs of a Geisha.

    Today's bank holiday mission:

Tidy the house (as didn't yesterday because of reading book) - tidied

Put bread on - done. In the oven now. Sliced up and in freezer

    Check online banking - done

Research cheapest website for new coat. I have wanted this particular coat for 2 years now (it is so beautiful) and now I will finally have some money to treat myself to it :)utter horror. I don't think they make it any more *cry*

B/L/D from stores. Making moussaka to use up aubergine. (Keep thinking of little girl in My Big Fat Greek Wedding - "Moose kaka?!" - mince part cooked and aubergine salting now. Done and eaten!

Look for recipe for butternut squash flan/tart - done

Take ham out of freezer for sandwiches next week - done

Tend to seedlings. Horror moment of Sat morning when I realised that the hot morning sun had shrivelled my salad leaves. Actually felt like a bad mother and nearly cried. Rushed them into the shade. Plants appear to be alive still as the seed leaves are ok, but the first big rocket-type leaves are gonners. I think they'll come back. Just need to keep them cooler! - done

Sow some more salad leaves so that when the first ones get munched (or killed by me ) we'll have more. - done

Have also racked the dandelion wine. Got a mouthful as I siphoned it. Not bad, will be better in a couple of weeks. I used the lees and part of a plastic coke bottle to make a slug trap. It's in the garden now. Come to me my pretties. mwhahahaha

Think that's me. Have a good one everyone :)

Morning guys  hurrah for it being a bank holiday :j and the weather here is beautiful already :T

Thanks for starting us off LPP. Sorry its not warmer where you are, but maybe it'll brighten up? :)

Carrie I love that film! I've watched it so many times :rotfl:

Candy sorry you've been having a tough time. I've been reading this book, it's about happiness (well kind of a summery of a lot of studies on what makes us happy) and one of the chapters talks about when we procrastinate. There is part of our brain that has evolved that means when we start a project we really want to have it finished and closed off. So that "do 15 mins" theory really does work as it kicks in this part of our brain. I hope that makes sense?! If you apply the 15 min rule to your studies you might surprise yourself and get into it!

The baby shower was lovely and meant a lot to my dd. All of her friends made a real effort. We had way too much food :o so I really need to have a good look in the cupboard/fridge and make sure nothing goes to waste. Freeze what I can and rejig the meal plan ;)

Yesterday we went for a mammoth walk from our home to the next town as oh has left his car there the previous day. The weather was glorious!

    Things for today:

    * [STRIKE]as above make sure no wastage occurs [/STRIKE]done
    * water seedlings and repot some plants
    * [STRIKE]did a load of washing and will hang out on the line [/STRIKE]done
    * [STRIKE]will do some serious decorating today - this room must be finished by the end of the week! [/STRIKE]hurrah we have done some :T might even be able to do some more in a bit if I have motivation to do it :j
    * [STRIKE]look on ebay to see if there are any carpets for sale [/STRIKE];) done, currently watching one ending in a few hours currently £41
*[STRIKE] all meals from stores [/STRIKE]yup and have prioritised what needed using up :A have just eaten lo frenchstick with ham and 1/2 a tomato, a slice a melon (melon needs to be used pretty quickly if its not going to go to the compost heap.... :o)
    * [STRIKE]NSD[/STRIKE] yep :p
    * [STRIKE]vacuum and clean out my car - have to take my boss out tomorrow in my car :o[/STRIKE]
    * call dd. She may come over for the day/night done
    * go for a run this afternoon
    * read free book - have just started "The Secret River" by Kate Grenville from oh's massive free kindle book list :)
    * shower & full mot later
    * get work clothes/lunches ready for the week ahead - oh hurrah realised it's a short week :j

ok better get on with things if I'm gonna get all of that done. mmmmm think I'll have one more coffee first...:D

    Hey ms d,

What is the name of the book ? Will look in the library for it.

I knew about the 15 minute thing - a bit like if you're not in the mood for a gym workout........go and warm up, and you'd want to stay.

    That's next on my list

    Thanks

Not exactly no spend. But I'm getting more airtight containers to keep fruit such as strawberries that go off quickly longer in the fridge. Investing to save in longer term.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

@Carrie - Glad you found the article interesting.

@Determined New MS - So glad the baby shower went well, sounds lovely. Also, Im a fan of the 15 minutes thing. It kind of ties into the Flylady thing to doesnt it, the do X for this long. Helps me keep my house on an even keal.

I have loved this bank holiday. Came back from work last night around 5, as it was quite a slow day, I had lots of energy left. Our garden is in a bit of a pickle, so I decided to just focus on one border of the front garden. Weeded, dug over the ground, cut a hedge that borders our property right back, and low and behold after 2 hours light work, it looks amazing. I still have so much to do, but I felt so good to make a start. We then had a roast chicken that had been cooking for hours, with salad bread etc. It was a yellow label bargain only £3.55, marked down from £5. Plenty left, and made stock too.

Today has not been MS but we had a lovely day at the seaside together. Bought coffee & burgers on the way, and had fish and chips for dinner before we went home so around £40 for the day, but we also managed to swim in the sea & do a 2 hour walk from one part of the area to another. Was all along the coast line so hardly like exercise at all..

Its given me a much needed mental boost, a feeling of reconnecting with the family & a desire to get on the MS horse again this week ahead.

Good luck to everyone this week with all their efforts.

    Bob

    Hi everyone,
A busy Bank Holiday. Finally feel I'm catching up in the garden. I'm sometimes picking our first cucumbers at the end of May if the weather's been hot.....this year, my biggest cucumber at the moment is 2 cms long!
*Got all my outdoor tomatoes into final growing position & rigged up a shelter for them from some weird string my friend gave me, some pegs & an old IKEA curtain.
*Planted globe artichoke (which was a gift) and tarted up blueberry bushes.
*Investigated Strawberry Tub Armageddon.......discovered it was caused by vine weevil. Sorted it. Will have to take up my friend's offer of some free strawberry runners this autumn.
*Planted out rest of bedding plants - grown from free seed.
*Made pulled pork in slow cooker. Really tasty. Made from a Sainso's 'basics' pork shoulder, half an onion & a load of pretty basic store cupboard ingredients. Enough to reheat tomorrow to eat in pittas for dinner, plus a packed lunch. Will defo make it again. Maybe use bigger piece of pork next time so can use some as pizza topping, jacket topping, etc (think I'm talking 'rubber pulled pork', lol.......)
*Swished warm water around 'empty' shampoo & conditioner bottle & managed another hairwash before starting new.
*Shared bath water! (A bit unfair for me to go first, as mr f had only been painting, whereas I was seriously covered in compost!)
*Did laundry overnight on Economy 7 - then did 2nd load on full tariff so as to get it dry on line, as worked out probably cheaper than doing tonight but having to put heaters on to dry indoors (Tues forecast looks v wet).
*Added lots of veggie scraps/peelings, etc, to the wormery to keep production levels up.......have been using the free liquid plant food (worm tea) on veggie garden.
Bobarella - Your post made me really want to see the seaside.....we live in such a landlocked part of the country......hopefully we'll manage a camping trip somewhere near the sea if there's any decent weather on the horizon. Glad you had a lovely day.
    That's it from me.
