Hi
I am just about to sell my house and my mortgage is fixed until Feb2008, I haven't found a property and am going to stay with a friend until I do find something, but cos I am leaving my mortgage they want £2000, is there any way around paying this money or lowering it,
any advice would be very welcome.

No. You signed a contract agreeing the terms and have benefited from that whilst you have had the mortgage (a lower fixed rate or discount or similar).

Check with the lender, some will refund the charges if you take another mortgage with them within the next few months.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. As silvecar said, some companies will give you a 3-6 month period to take out a new mortgage with them and they will then refund the ERC that you have paid, you will pay it up front but as long as you complete on a new mortgage you will get it back
