Help! Laptop won't switch on

My OH was watching some clips on Youtube when the laptop suddenly went off. Now it won't switch on. No lights come on at all on the laptop and the light on the adapter flashes when the adapter is plugged into the laptop but is on continuously when it isn't. Its a Samsung R519 and is 3 years old.
Any ideas?

It's broken
Have you tried taking the battery out & powering using the mains?0 -
He said the laptops dead, we need another! Me being the moneysaver of the family said let's try and fix it first!
Its exactly the same without the battery, no lights on and the light on the power pack flashing and when I unplug it from the laptop the light stops flashing.0 -
Sounds like the power supply is dead.
Do you have access to an AVO meter to test the output?
Do you know anyone with the same make / model who could lend you their power supply?0 -

ahhh...they were the days, probably be a Fluke now
borrowing a PSU is best idea, just make sure the input jacks are the same size and the voltage/current are a pretty close match to yours, i.e. if yours runs 19V/3.42Amps, 19V/3.75A or 20V/3.25A should suffice just to test the lappy'll power up.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
The laptop was plugged into the mains and had almost finished charging though so surely it should be able to run off the battery.0

^^ so, leave battery out and unplugged from mains, press and hold power-on button down for 50 seconds, then put battery back in and try powering on. If it fires up, battery is ok. If it still doesn't, then could be the internal lappy power or charging circuit that's gone, so take battery back out, press & hold power-on button again, then leave battery out and try powering from mains PSU..what happens for both methods ?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Thanks for your suggestions. I just tried both suggestions and its exactly the same, absolutely dead.0 -
Buy or borrow a multimeter and test the DC output from the mains charger jack.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
