    You do like your stereotypes....

Not really but they are good at peddling baloney.

Bob Q posted an interesting link on how productive Boeing have been with the latest airliner. Most effective at squandering future air passenger fares for decades to come.

Airlines aren't forced to buy the Dreamliner - other options are available. Boeing have invested and have plenty of cash to ride out the predictable bumps along the way - that's investing for the long term. Wouldn't happen in the public sector - too many jealousy and blame committees ready to jump in with both feet if someone has one too many chocolate biscuits at a meeting.
Most effective at creating aspirational/conspirational "brands" out of thin air hoovering revenue across the globe for things like fizzy flavoured water. Really useful stuff like that or releasing functionality over 5 releases when 2 would do..

I can get sniffy if I need to about stuff like that but it does appear that the US are proving that the last 100 years of wealth creation isn't a fluke.

They've invested less in the public sector as they accept that the private sector make better long term investment decisions.

If they've followed the best path then we're not far behind because the UK has, give or take, implemented the same policies. We've hardly been forced to wear hair shirts as a result of 'austerity'.

Wealth is relative. For many Americans, life if just above the poverty line. Not the America one sees in the media.

    ..and?

Did someone say poverty had been cured?

Plenty of people in the world would swap their miserable existences for life in the US - like you say it's relative.

the way out of this mess is to stimulate growth now that will eventually become self-sustaining.
Something that has never been done before. Why would you believe it could ever happen?

    edit:
oh, unless you just mean another Boom/Bust cycle

The US execs that have been called in front of the select committee all bear an uncanny resemblance to Bob Diamond. In terms of culture and attitude. Hence why I prefer the UK any day.

The public sector isn't about investment decisions to make money. They are cost centres very often picking up the pieces that fall though the privates sector colander.

I wonder how profitable the likes of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon would be without the public dollar, GBP, SAR & KRW. You are right who said anything about relative poverty.

He was a nightmare before he even got this side of the Atlantic apparently.

They do get easily perplexed as well.

We all talk "English", after that the similarity with many (in personal my experience East Coasters) ends.
