Thanks for the recipe mimi looks yum
And a quick question for savvyb... Based on price per kilo in a MSE way, would you say local green grocer type shops are better value for money than supermarkets? Just curious as I always seem to spend less in there than on equivalents in the main shops but don't have time to take down prices for carrots, potatoes, onions etc. and yet I can come out with a trolley full of veg for less than a tenner whilst supermarkets I can get a bag of carrots (£1), potatoes (£2) etc (rough figures obviously)
Sorry if that adds another dimension to your price collecting Savvy :-/
No need to be sorry - it's a valid point.
It depends entirely whether the items are on special offer in the supermarkets and what the offers are. If they are not on special offer, greengrocers probably cheaper. If they are on special offer though (preferably at a rival to A and then 10% off) the supermarkets can be cheaper. I don't know though - as I'm concentrating mainly on the supermarkets.
Local market may be cheaper - depends what you get and whether there's any offers around. Definitely some items, such as many of the potatoes though have increased in price in the supermarkets (apart from 'value'/'basics' etc. 2.5kg ones, and even those have gone up from £1 to £1.18/£1.19). Carrots - well you can read my story from when I came on here earlier!! The 1kg carrots are £1 almost everywhere in the supermarkets - too expensive for me - the basics versions (which are more than 1kg) used to be cheaper - but even they have now had a sharp price increase. I even went  at the high price of carrots I saw in Aldi the other day.
You can't spend time taking down prices in supermarkets - the SELs are so often inaccurate that no-one shopping in a supermarket should try to compare prices on different varieties of the same product in-store. Always prepare online first. Use mys'market.co.uk and you can press to order the items by price per unit and easily see which is cheapest at that store. Then buy at the competitor vs them if possible.
(M is of course the exception at the moment, and I try to fill in that gap for you. And for myself too - my own shopping vs M this weekend is going to be very quickly prepared as I've now got all the information for my shopping on here.)0 -

Multibuy glitch possibility?
Another one... being added to my Avs M list!
2x Nivea Pure & Natural Hand Cream (100ml)
£2.94x2 (but really 2 for £5) - vs M at £1.49 each we hope!
Sorry N.I.-your best option is vs S at £1.96 each (until 11/6, i.e. 10/6).
Unless ours goes face up vs M's!
Check your wombles please for these items - and confirm, if you can, what's showing for M.
Avs M:

Thanks Savvy. I've been noticing a lot of supermarkets are doing a 'bag' of carrots (for example) for £1 when often the loose are cheaper per kg and on the odd chance I remember the price the green grocer seems better value.
Ms are my preferred supermarket for veg since my local had a revamp, they have most of the fresh veg unbagged and with 'water sprays' to keep them fresh and they just look more appetising. Sure they're probably the same price elsewhere but the whoopsies in store are much better value than in my local Ts and As.
I've been disappointed in Ts of late. I still remember 8/9 years ago when I could do a whole months shop for four of us for £40. How times have changed. Granted that was a muggle shop, but with value potatoes and mince at 80p a bag and beans at 1p at times it was worth it.
If I price up my shopping list now it's shocking! Tinned tomatoes up to 35p from 13p, noodles from 5p to 15p, even dried spaghetti and flour was 9p and is now 35p+.
That's why I'm grateful for this thread and also your posts. I'm sure that without the comparisons and the ( rare) glitch I'd be spending way more than I needed to.0 -
